Charge the Wave - Faith In Motion

Charge the Wave: Faith in Motion

Every year at Surfing The Nations, leadership will press in with prayer for a theme to be a guiding focus for the year. In the past we've been guided by the themes of "Inspire", "Dream Machine", "Grit" and "Respect. This year, at our staff conference, we announced the 2026 theme is “CHARGE THE WAVE!” It is a call to live out our walks with God with vigor and purpose.

In surfing, a wave demands an immediate response; any hesitation means an opportunity is lost. However,  Charge The Wave is more than a surf expression to us—it’s a picture of real faith in motion.  Scripture reflects this same urgency. When Jesus called His first disciples, a pair of fishermen, they, amongst receiving a miracle of fish in their boats, made the decision to leave it all immediately and follow Him instead. At Surfing The Nations, we believe true faith is active. Charging the wave means recognizing where God is moving and responding with full throttle obedience, even when the outcome isn’t clear.

Faith charges forward before clarity arrives.

While charging a wave looks bold, it is built on preparation done before the swell appears. Surfers train, watch the ocean, learn its signs and rhythms,  and exercise patience in the lineup. In the same way, lasting, impactful ministry is sustained by prayer, discipleship, and intentional community. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places before stepping into public ministry, reminding us that unseen faithfulness fuels visible impact. As we prepare to take on the charge, we will maintain a devotion to our time with the Lord, and private preparation to steward the moments God entrusts to us.

Private devotion fuels public impact.

Every wave carries risk, and charging it requires courage. Bigger waves are intimidating, yet they hold the greatest potential. Throughout the Bible, breakthrough follows obedience—Peter steps out of the boat, Joshua leads Israel into unknown territory, and God meets both of them there. Surfing The Nations exists to move toward broken places with wisdom and boldness, trusting that God does His deepest work when we are willing to go beyond the shoreline.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s obedience in motion.

And most importantly, charging the wave also demands full commitment. Once a surfer drops in, there is no halfway decision. What happens when a surfer is hesitant? Usually, wipeout. Jesus echoes this truth in discipleship, calling His followers to wholehearted surrender. STN was never built on convenience or comfort, but on lives fully yielded to God’s call. When we release our grip on the shore, we discover the freedom, purpose, and transformation found in saying yes to Him.

You can’t ride God’s wave while clinging to the shore.

We invite you to join us this year as we Charge the Wave - allow yourself to be challenged and go for it in 2026!
